The Tale of Despereaux

Summary: This is a story about a mouse named Despereaux who was born very small.  He lived in the castle of Dorr.  He did not want to be like an ordinary mouse and he was in love with the princess.  He was banished to the dungeon after speaking with the Princess Pea.  An angry rat named Chiarascuro, with the help of Miggery Sow, captured Princess Pea because she gave him a disgusted look many years ago.  Despereaux goes on a hero's quest to save her with a needle as a sword.  He saves the princess and they are friends forever after.

My Favorite Part: I like the part when Despereaux is about to be sent to the dungeon and the mouse counsel is beating the drum and yelling, "To the dungeon!"  I like this part because it is very scary and it shows how easy it is to follow peer pressure and go along with a decision just because everyone is yelling and excited.

Author's Message: I think the author is trying to tell us that it can be very difficult and scary to be yourself especially when it is not the normal way of life.  But we should find out who we are and not be afraid to be that person no matter what anyone else thinks.  I also think the author is trying to tell us that anyone can be offended and make a bad choice, but they can also change for the better.  Everyone needs to feel important and loved no matter what they do or look like.
